Redlist

From ASSPSMTP

Jump to: navigation, search

Redlists are lists of criteria that when matched will prevent a SMTP session from contributing to the Whitelist, and ham or spam to the Bayesian corpus. Redlists are used to prevent poisoning of the Bayesian database.

  • ASSP matches can result from the functions: The Redlist, redRe

Using redlists becomes particularly useful for automated emails, such as newsletters, mailing lists, auto-replies (out of office replies), etc. Similarly, it can be used for individuals that have their email automatically forwarded to an external address, regularly do thoughtless things like reply to spammers or send/forward outgoing messages that contain spam to friends, etc. If the redlist didn't keep these emails from getting automatically added to the whitelist and the notspam corpus, the notspam directory would quickly get polluted with spam, and possibly make the Bayesian scanning ineffective.
