The Microsoft Outlook mail client can be easily configured to filter spam that was allowed to be delivered to the user's mailbox because of Test Mode options. By using Outlook's ability to filter e-mail base on message header information, spam-tagged messages can be automatically placed into the Junk E-mail folder for a more efficient mailbox management.

  1. Open Outlook, go to the Tools pull-down menu, then select Rules and Alerts...
  2. Click New Rule... and select Start from blank rule. Click Next >.
  3. In the "Step 1: Select condition(s)" box, scroll down the list of conditions and check with specific words in the message header.
  4. In the "Step 2: Edit the rule description" box, click specific words.
  5. In the text box enter "X-Assp-Spam: YES" (without the quotation marks) and click Add. Click OkNext.
  6. In the "Step 1: Select action(s)" box, check move it to the specified folder.
  7. In the "Step 2: Edit the rule description" box, click specified. From the list of folders, select Junk E-mail, then click OkNextNext.
    • If you want this spam filtering to be applied to the messages already in your inbox, check Run this rule now on messages already in "Inbox". Otherwise, leave it unchecked.
  8. Click Finish. You should now see a rule reading "X-Assp-Spam: YES" in the list of rules. Click Ok.
